Meet the Directors
Established in February 2013 the overall aim we have for Aspiring2 is to ‘Support individuals and not for profit organisations to reach their full potential.
Meet Nicky ...
Nicky Birkinshaw is one of the founders of Aspiring2. Nicky began her career in the 1980s as a Job club Leader in Sheffield, supporting individuals, mostly redundant steel workers, back into employment.
Since then, Nicky has worked in various roles including Project Worker, Finance Manager and Business Development Manager for different organisations, mostly in the charity sector. These have included YWCA, Doncaster West Development Trust and British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine.
Nicky has also run her own businesses for many years and her real passion is to support others to set up in business.
Nicky is passionate about supporting individuals to make positive changes in their lives and works in an empathetic, non-judgemental way.
Nicky was the founder of Women in Supported Housing, a not-for-profit organisation which provides safe housing for women facing adversity. She is also a Director of weSTART in the Community CIC which also provides support in the form of branding and marketing support for business start-ups. They also provide free start up guides for those wanting to start a business or those wanting to grow and develop a business.
Meet Sue ...
Sue Oxley is one of the Directors of Aspiring2 whose career started in the early 1970’s as a computer operator and progressed through corporate development working for large multi-national organisations culminating in roles such as Area Management and Regional Training Manager.
In 2009 after being made redundant Sue had the opportunity to completely change her career path and joined Doncaster West Development Trust where she gained experience working closely with marginalised communities. Sue attributes her determination to support individuals within the community to the corporate and business training she gained over the expanse of her career in the field of commerce.
Sue feels that her ability to demonstrate patience and commitment to those with a desire to learn and be the best they can offer allows her to support clients who engage with Aspiring2.
Over the last 25 years Sue has simultaneously balanced her home life, career and run her own business ventures from card, gift and craft shops to IT Training and until recently a co-owner of a family run day care centre for the elderly. Combating isolation and encouraging social interaction is an important part of everything we strive to achieve for our clients at Aspiring2 regardless of age.
Sue firmly believes that listening, talking, sharing hopes and dreams, demonstrating a desire to learn, accessing support through an organisation that cares will always produce a positive outcome. Having a belief in our client’s abilities will always transcend into them believing in themselves.
She is also a director supporting a CIC called Mindful Activities Yorkshire who support individuals who are experiencing isolation, anxiety and low level stress to engage and develop coping strategies through the medium of arts and crafts.
