I became Self- Employed in 2020 after 3 years of thinking should I shouldn’t I. I worried as my lack in knowledge when it came to website and marketing, but in January 2020 I decided to take the plunge and I have never looked back. Can’t thank Aspiring2 enough!! I’ve had an amazing few weeks under the wing of Nicky Birkinshaw. She has been there for me and my business for everything! She guides me on things that I don’t even think of and she’s always in the background when I need her! Opening my own business is probably the hardest and scariest achievement I’ve done in my life and it felt like I was feeling my way through a dark room before I met Nicky. Nicky from Aspiring2 has been an amazing help already and I’ve known her less than 6 months!!!
I’ve been running my non profit bike community since July 2017 and was just volunteering my time and energy into developing it and trying to monetise it so I could develop it further which would me I could spend more time on it and as a result reach and help more people.
As the years went by I saw how much people benefitted from the community I had built both in that people felt connected to the community so felt part of something but also we helped and encouraged people from tough times mentally to get on their bikes to help their mental health.
Over the years the money TotalMTB was bringing in was building but not enough to sustain me and it was coming to a crucial point where I had to see if I could take it to the next level so I could continue to reach and help people but I was getting paid enough for my time to justify it (I would love to help people all the time for free however we a house and family you have to also make enough money for yourself).
I then came across the Nicky of Aspiring2 through the people of Community Wealth Builder and since then she’s been fantastic with me and TotalMTB, firstly helping me through the process of becoming a CIC and then finding and applying for funding which in the last week we’ve had TWO successful bids which will keep TotalMTB CIC going for nearly a year and that is without TotalMTB making any money itself.
Not only do these successful bids give me massive encouragement that I can run TotalMTB CIC for the foreseeable future and reach and help more people but it relaxes me and my on stresses and anxiety around money and wondering if I can continue TotalMTB.
So not only has Nicky helped me and TotalMTB CIC but she’s also helped the people I help through TotalMTB CIC as she’s played a massive part in helping TotalMTB CIC get the funding.
I honestly can’t thank Nicky enough for the help and advice she’s given me as it’s been a very stressful few months trying to get everything in place but she was encouraging me every step of the way.
I will always keep in contact with Nicky, help her whenever I can, attend events she run when I can to try and repay my gratitude.
It’s crazy to think I’m just one person she’s helped through Aspiring2 and there are so many others she’s helped and advised the CIC and funding space and that means without knowing it she’s had a positive affect on 100s if not 1000s of people in the local area and beyond because of the help she’s given to other non profit and charities.
